Double Heart, by celebrated Italian-born artist, designer, and architect Gaetano Pesce, is a permanent focal point of Lyrik’s sunset deck and acts as a beacon, a gesture of positivity, love, connection, and community. The final public project conceived during the artist’s lifetime, Double Heart is Pesce’s only permanent sculpture in the United States, anchoring Lyrik and welcoming millions to the city of Boston.

Double Heart is the final public project by Gaetano Pesce, the celebrated Italian-born architect, designer, and artist whose six-decade career redefined the possibilities of form and function.
Standing nearly thirty feet tall, Double Heart was inspired by a lamp Pesce designed in the late 1970s. The form—two hearts pierced by an arrow, a recurring image in his work—serves as a universal symbol of care and connection. Pesce envisioned it as a beacon for the city, reminding us of our shared duty of love and responsibility toward one another.
Widely regarded as one of the most radical and influential figures in art and design, Pesce has been the subject of major exhibitions at museums worldwide, with works in collections including The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; and The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Commissioned by Samuels & Associates for Lyrik Back Bay, Double Heart reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to bring world-class art and artists to Boston through its collaboration with curatorial and advisory firm Goodman Taft. The installation builds on more than three decades of impactful community-building work in the city.
Pesce once stated, “An object in a public space can make people think. It can help people understand our time, the cultural place they are in.” With Double Heart, Boston gains a profound and lasting reminder of that philosophy—an enduring monument to connection and progress and a lasting testament to Pesce’s belief in creativity, diversity, and optimism.
